Callum’s Catch Up 03.03.25

Slava Ukraini

Even though the sun is finally shining and the days are getting longer, the dark days that our friends in Ukraine are experiencing have been playing a lot on my mind - as I am sure they have for many of you.

I’m extremely proud of the leadership our Prime Minister and our country has shown this week on the international stage. We have a strong history of standing with our European allies, and this era is no different - but it has meant our Government has had to make some difficult decisions. Here is my statement on a watershed moment for our security, and the decisive steps being taken to protect our nation.

The rest of this newsletter will focus on what I’ve been up to nationally and locally (with a bit of a football focus this week), so in the meantime: Slava Ukraini.

Local visits

Elsewhere in the constituency this week I:

  • Wrote my latest Callum’s Column on why we need more homes in Bucks, and why it is time to act now. Click here to read in full.

  • Met with MK Dons’ Chief Executive to see how we best can leverage the power of football and the Oxford-Cambridge Growth Corridor (I was not responsible for Saturday’s score, honest…)

  • Continuing with football, I visited Bletchley Scot FC and assured them that I will do all I can to support the grassroots game.

  • Attended Beachampton Parish Council’s village meeting and discussed bolstering local flood prevention.

In Westminster

Back in Westminster I:

  • Spoke at the Kick it Out reception on eliminating racism in the beautiful game.

  • Voted to create Skills England, a new arms-length body that will be dedicated to providing more opportunities to learners from all backgrounds.

  • Supported the #LetGirlsPlay campaign which aims to give all girls equal access to football (pictured with Anita Asante).

  • Attended a Westminster Hall Debate on the implementation of the Online Safety Act.
