Celebrating Commonwealth Day
It’s Commonwealth Day today, so I had the privilege of starting my week in Westminster at the flag raising ceremony in Portcullis House. Often described as a 'family' of nations, we all share the common goals of prosperity, democracy and peace - and I’ll keep these goals at the forefront of my mind this week.
Looking back at last week, in case you missed it - two important national announcements were made by our Government which will directly benefit local people. On Thursday, the Ministry of Justice announced record funding for the Crown Courts, and on Friday, the Health Secretary launched a new supervised toothbrushing scheme for three to five year olds, targeting the areas of highest need.
Closer to home, it was great to see that Lord Vallance (Oxford-Cambridge Innovation Champion and Science Minister) visited Milton Keynes last week. Our city is the beating heart of the Oxford Cambridge Growth Corridor and is vital to kickstarting economic growth.
As always, locally I am working hard to make a difference - do read through to find out what I’ve been up to. And if there is anything I can help you with, don’t hesitate to get in touch.
Local visits
Elsewhere in the constituency this week I:
Attended Buckingham's Annual Town Meeting. It was fantastic to see so many local residents coming together to share their views on our town’s future.
Spent a cathartic couple of hours helping to plant some trees at the Leys Recreation Ground in west Bletchley (pictured).
Took part in a community Iftar in Bletchley and Fenny Stratford. Thanks to everyone who made me feel incredibly welcome.
Spoke to residents in central Buckingham on flooding and other local issues.
In Westminster
Back in Westminster I:
Attended the Data (Use and Access) Bill Committee as a Parliamentary Private Secretary.
Voted in favour of the Finance Bill to progress the Chancellor’s Budget.
Went along to the APPG on Private Capital.
