A galvanising speech from the Chancellor

I’m still feeling really energised following the Chancellor’s speech last Wednesday, which I was lucky enough to attend alongside Chris Curtis MP, Emily Darlington MP, and Cllr Pete Marland (Leader of Milton Keynes Council).

In case you missed it, Rachel Reeves outlined how our Government is going to galvanise growth; and our constituency of Buckingham and Bletchley is front and centre of these plans. We already have hundreds of incredibly vibrant businesses and institutions, so it makes absolute sense for us to be at the heart of a region driving innovation.

For more information and reaction on what the new growth corridor means, click here. The Times also published an article over the weekend on why it is time to move to Milton Keynes, and I couldn’t agree more!

Elsewhere locally, this morning my team hosted the first of three NHS consultations on the upcoming 10 Year Health Plan. Please do pop by the other two sessions if you can make it:

  • Quainton: 6 February, Station Rd, Quainton, Aylesbury HP22 4BW, 5-7pm.

  • Bletchley: 10 February, Queensway Methodist Hall, Queensway, MK2 2HB, 10am-12pm.

If you cannot attend any of our consultation events, please do fill in the online survey via the online platform: Change.NHS.uk. It’s quick to fill in, and it cannot be stressed enough: everyone is invited to contribute.

Looking ahead to the rest of the week, I’m looking forward to hosting my usual community surgery and getting out and about to meet voters across North Buckinghamshire. I am here to serve you. If there is anything I can help you with, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

Local visits

Elsewhere in the constituency this week I:

  • Hosted my regular constituency surgery in Bletchley.

  • Had a really productive chat with Joe Harrison CBE (CEO of Milton Keynes University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust) on how we can build the new (and much-needed) hospital as soon as possible.

  • Spent a very chilly afternoon chatting to voters in Linden Village (pictured).

  • Popped by the Progressive Britain weekend in Milton Keynes and engaged with local Labour activists.

  • Met with Josie Fraser, (Interim Vice-Chancellor, Open University) and Louise Harrison (Chief Executive, Buckinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service) to explore how we can best serve local people.

In Westminster

Back in Westminster I:

  • Voted in favour of the Water (Special Measures) Bill to clean up our rivers and hold Water Executives accountable for spillages.

  • Met with the Start Up Coalition to discuss how we can make our economy more attractive to technology firms.
