Happy National Apprenticeship Week!
Happy National Apprenticeship Week everyone!
Apprenticeships are a fantastic way to break down barriers to opportunity and give our young people training on the job. We are passionate about making them more accessible for employees and employers alike. This is why last autumn our Labour Government announced ambitious apprenticeship reforms to give learners and employers greater flexibility over their training, and we know they have an important role to play in driving our economic recovery.
Things are changing for the better, and on Friday I shared online my first journey using Bletchley station’s new contactless payment system - a welcomed improvement that will reduce queueing times and allow for seamless transition between trains. I also reflected on the Chancellor’s recent speech on growth, and how much our local area is set to benefit. Do watch through here.
As well as changing things for the better, we are also doing our best as a Government to make amends for past mistakes made by others. To this end, last week I proudly voted in favour of cracking down on covid fraud - it’s a shame that my colleagues across the benches in Reform and the Conservatives couldn’t be bothered to show up for it….
I promise that as your MP I will do my best to show up for you, and I will always stand up for your best interests.
Local visits
Elsewhere in the constituency this week I:
Hosted my regular constituency surgery in Westcroft.
Spent some time at a local dairy farm as part of my Food and Farming Fellowship programme with the National Union of Farmers.
Had the pleasure of going to the opening of Bletchley Park's new 'Age of AI' exhibition, which is funded by the UK Government (pictured).
Took part in a meeting with Milton Keynes City Council on how our Government can best support local people.
Spoke to voters in Linden Village to take on board their concerns.
In addition, my team hosted two NHS consultation events on the upcoming 10 year Health Plan. If you couldn’t make these sessions, please fill in this very quick online survey. We want to hear from you.
In Westminster
Back in Westminster I:
Took part in a committee on online safety. Labour has pledged to toughen up online safety laws to protect children and the most vulnerable.
Hosted roundtables with Aviva and Octopus Group on how we can work with the private sector to encourage growth.
Facilitated a Telecoms Surgery on how we can increase digital inclusion to ensure that everyone can access digital methods of communication.
