Callum’s Catch Up 20.01.25
A new hospital for Milton Keynes
Today is Blue Monday, supposedly the most depressing day of the year. And yet, I actually think we have quite a lot to be cheerful about.
In fact, just today came some very exciting news. After many years of waiting, Milton Keynes is getting a new hospital, with building beginning in 2027-28. I’m utterly delighted for local people, who have had to suffer some of the longest waiting times in the country. Click here for a full reaction from myself, Emily Darlington MP and Chris Curtis MP.
I also recently explained in this month’s Callum’s Column why I am so full of optimism for what we can achieve together nationally and right here in the Buckingham and Bletchley constituency. Do read through to find out more on what our Government is doing to support hospices, get police back on our streets, and to plug in our potholes.
Internationally we’ve had some much-welcomed news as well. Like many constituents, I’m relieved the ceasefire that the Israeli and Palestinian people have been desperately been waiting for has been announced.
So forgive me if you see me with a very wide grin…
Local visits
Elsewhere in the constituency this week I:
Met with pupils from Saint Thomas Aquinas Primary’s School’s Student Council to discuss and explain all things Parliament and democracy.
Engaged with Buckinghamshire Business First and its members to hear more about opportunities and challenges for local firms.
Popped by Jardine’s Pharmacy (pictured) to learn about the contribution of community pharmacies to local healthcare provision.
Spoke with Councillors at the Tingewick Parish Council Meeting.
Held an advice surgery in Winslow and shared ideas with local people on how we can make our area the best possible place to live.
In Westminster
Back in Westminster I:
Voted in favour of the Renters Rights Bill to give greater security to tenants and help people put down roots.
Took part in an insightful meeting of the APPG for Financial Services and Markets. We discussed the critical role the financial sector can play in supporting growth and clean energy.
Asked the Chancellor how the Government will support the UK-China Stock Connect. This initiative is a prime example of how fostering economic collaboration can create opportunities.
